I recommend the Wal-Mart bike cover for those trips when you want to have your bike cover when touring but don’t want to waste precious cargo space or add any weight. This cover is not for heavy rain or snow, but gets the job done for the travelling biker very well. It will keep the dust off and those pesky opportunistic thieves away. I chose the X-Large for my full dress touring bike. Retail price was only $19.96.
The Wal-Mart bike cover packs small and is lightweight, it comes with it’s own carry pouch and is easy to use. This is the lightest and smallest (stored) cover that I could find… even compared to touring covers that cost 10x more! Price isn’t a factor. I would certainly pay more for more or better functionality.
The Wal-Mart cover was so easy to use. There is a clip on each side. I clipped them together under the middle of the bike (after the pipes cooled, of course). This makes the cover stay put even in high winds. Ask me how I know… The material is very silky and smooth, so no worries about scratching the paint. It covered almost the entire bike. The only part uncovered was the bottom of my extended saddlebags and the exhaust tips. In front, it covered the entire front wheel and windshield. You must orient the cover correctly to get maximum coverage. The rear panel of the cover has a square material and let’s you know which side goes to the rear. This cover store in it’s own travel bag and compresses very small and thin. I simply stored it on the side of one of my travel bags and let it compress to almost nothing.
After using this cover for my recent 18-day trip, I would recommend this product 100% and even use it for my cover while in the garage now. The lightweight and silky smoothness make me believe that this cover is better than the CVO cover that came stock from Harley!
The X-Large cover packs down in a 6 x 15 inch travel bag. It then compresses so small that it feels like it doesn’t take much cargo space at all. That’s about ½ inch thick when compressed with other luggage. It’s so thin that it can be folded smaller to fit in smaller spaces if needed.
Here is the cover fully open. The side clips can attach to the bike or to each other to prevent wind from blowing the cover away.
Here is the actual tag in case you need it to find the right model/size. It is a MC-6-R (XL) This is the lowest price model that Wal-Mart sells. It is also the lightest and takes the least amount of cargo space when travelling.
